Data-Driven Decision Processes in Smart Facility Management
Data-driven management means fewer arguments, not more dashboards. We look at how the process is set up.

The obstacle to establishing data-driven decision processes in facility management is rarely a lack of data. Most facilities have data; what is missing is a prior definition of which decision that data triggers, and at which threshold.
Thresholds are defined in advance
If what happens when a value crosses a limit is debated at the moment of the event, the process is not data-driven. Writing down thresholds, owners and response steps in advance turns data from material for discussion into a trigger.
- Define a normal range and an intervention threshold for every measurement point.
- Give every threshold an owner; an unowned alarm is eventually ignored.
- Define the response step together with the alarm itself, not afterwards.
- Review false alarms regularly; that is the fastest way trust is lost.
Once this structure exists, the dashboard's role changes too. It stops being a screen under constant watch and becomes a reference consulted for the reasoning behind a triggered decision.
